Orb Could Be Anywhere

Doc points to the Windows-centric nature of Orb and wants to see it change. I look at Orb and think it could easily be anywhere without needing to pay for a gatekeeper like Orb. Unless there's something tricky going on with the service, it's file server and streaming server for your home network with an interface designed to be accessible on screens of any size. Linux geeks could accomplish the same thing with Helix DNA Server, assuming the portable device supports the Helix output formats. Mac users are at a bigger disadvantage because TV tuner hardware for Macs is still outrageously expensive. At the hear of Orb, you need password protection for your home network, the ability to browse your media files, stream media files, and the ability to pass data back to your home PC from your PDA or cell phone. These are not new technologies; they are old technologies combined in a useful way. Linux geeks get part of this functionality by using a PHP script like Andromeda. I think Helix might handle most of the rest of the process.
