Required Listening
Lawrence Lesig presentation should be required listening/viewing for everyone who ever gets online. A broad statement, yes. Lessig gave this speech about 100 times. He explains the progression of copyright from the 1700s through the DMCA, and just how out of control things have gotten, in a way that anyone can understand.
According to Lessig, who was citing music industry statistics, 5 times as many albums were traded online last year as were sold by the industry. Sales declined by 5%. 500% more trading than sales, 5% decline. I say, where's the damage (and I've downloaded *maybe* 12 songs from P2P services)?
That little factoid is only the tip of the iceberg...
